Unrivalled Stability and Security - More Benefits!

Ethernet circuits provide the UK's best Internet access circuits - Ethernet is ideal for businesses requiring guaranteed throughput bandwidth with Service Level Agreements that support voice, video and mission critical data applications.

Using JPCI's Ethernet circuits for your Internet access provides a dedicated high-speed, uncontended, full duplex symmetrical bandwidth solution that results in a lower overhead, greater throughput and higher reliability than any broadband (ADSL/SDSL) services.

Using either fibre or copper access technology, Ethernet provides flexible bandwidth options from 2Mbps right up to 1Gbps.

JPCi's Ethernet service offers:

Ethernet is rapidly becoming the standard protocol used in Wide Area Networking (WAN) providing an efficient and effective way to connect sites using existing Ethernet based data equipment.

Ethernet can form an ideal basis for a MPLS WAN linking a number of sites. Sites can access a MPLS network using Ethernet, SDSLM or ADSL2+ type circuits and, in addition, our Hosted Firewall solution allows centralised internet access giving home workers the ability to enjoy a VPN into the MPLS network.

Our minimum performance specification is:
Uptime Availability: 99.93%
Packet loss: Maximum of 0.01%
Latency: < 10 ms
Jitter: < 3 ms

Copper Ethernet or EFM (Ethernet in the First Mile) provides a dedicated high speed, uncontended, full duplex symmetrical bandwidth solution with lower overhead, greater throughput and higher reliability than all broadband (ADSL/SDSL) services.

EFM circuits are delivered over multi-copper cores, if one copper pair fails, the service will re-configure itself to continue working (at a lower speed) over the remaining copper pairs.

Copper Ethernet provides flexible bandwidth options from 2Mbps to 10Mbps at a far lower cost than Fibre Ethernet - bringing it within reach of most small and medium businesses. The key reason for using Copper Ethernet is the robustness of the delivery platform and the Service Level Agreements which offer outstanding bandwidth, throughput and reliability. Copper Ethernet circuits can also be used for point-to-point connections or to provide a private MPLS network with shared Internet access breakout.

"Broadband just isn't cutting it. We're reliant heavily on networked systems and cloud resources. We require a greater bandwidth speed than broadband can provide us with. What can you offer us that a lot faster than broadband?"

Using fibre Ethernet circuits for your internet access provides a dedicated high speed, uncontended, full duplex symmetrical bandwidth solution that has lower overhead, greater throughput and higher reliability than all broadband (ADSL/SDSL) services.

Ethernet provides flexible and scalable bandwidth options from 10Mbps up to 1Gbps internet access. Ethernet circuits can also be used for Point-to-Point connections or to provide a private MPLS network with shared internet access breakout.

Fibre Ethernet is simply the best, most scalable and reliable internet and site-to-site connectivity option available in the UK today.

"Our staff need to communicate information and pass documentation over the web to each other from different locations. We're concerned about the inherent security risks that this presents. Are there any secure network options that could help us?

MPLS VPNs provide the privacy and security of a Frame Relay or ATM network, yet they allow the inherent any-to-any connectivity and routing flexibility typical of an IP network. It's the best of both worlds. In addition, JPCi Telecoms' MPLS VPNs provide three other important elements:

  • Service Level Agreements that are critical to application convergence and they also support voice, video and data on one network.
  • MPLS VPNs are a natural platform for dynamic Disaster Recovery. Based on IP routing, it's simple to support multiple data centres in a load sharing or primary/backup scenario.
  • MPLS VPNs simplify data centre architecture. Unlike Frame Relay and ATM, you are not limited by having to manage several Point-to-Point direct connections to remote sites.

MPLS Layer 3 VPNs are based on RFC2547bis. This standard defines mechanisms intended to keep individual VPNs completely private and separate from each other. While the data traverses a shared infrastructure, you can be assured that your VPNs are maintained and monitored as separate entities, much like a Frame Relay or ATM network.

JPCI Telecoms' MPLS VPN offer:

  • Any-to-Any IP connectivity - Optimal routing without PVCs
  • Improved latency - Avoid tandem routing through a hub (offload hub router)
  • Any IP Address Scheme - Intranets and extranets
  • Circuit consolidation - Eliminate aggregation layer, if using a Layer 3 VPN, for all sites
  • Cost effective
  • Diversity Via IP Routing - Simplified Disaster Recovery and inherent redundancy
  • Ease of network expansion
  • High speed access support - Up to OC192
  • Access Technology Agnostic - Frame Relay, ATM, PPP over DS0-OC48; Ethernet, DSL, etc...
  • IP Class of Service
  • Provider-Based IP VPN - No requirement for CPE-based tunneling and encryption equipment/software.

"Like most businesses, our records and systems are contained within, and supported by, our network. We want to protect ourselves from unauthorised external access, but need a flexible solution that we can adapt to our specific needs..."

Designed to prevent unauthorized access to or from your private network, Firewalls can be implemented in both hardware and software, or a combination of both. JPCi firewalls will prevent unauthorized Internet users from accessing those of your private networks connected to the internet, especially intranets. All messages entering or leaving will pass through our Firewall, which examines each message and blocks those that do not meet your specified security criteria.

We can supply a number of different types of Firewall:

  • Packet filter: Looks at each packet entering or leaving the network and accepts or rejects it based on user-defined rules. Packet filtering is fairly effective and transparent to users, but it is difficult to configure. In addition, it is susceptible to IP spoofing.
  • Application gateway: Applies security mechanisms to specific applications, such as FTP and Telnet servers. This is very effective, but can result in performance degradation.
  • Circuit-level gateway: Applies security mechanisms when a TCP or UDP connection is established. Once the connection has been made, packets can flow between the hosts without further checking.
  • Proxy server: Intercepts all messages entering and leaving the network. The proxy server effectively hides the true network addresses.

In practice, we usually implement two or more of these techniques together. Remember that a Firewall is considered a first line of defense in protecting private information. For greater security we can help you with encryption.
